Ceilidhs and sessions
A ceilidh or barn-dance can be great idea, whether as public fundraiser (e.g. charities, PTA) part of a private celebration (e.g. birthdays, weddings) or of a corporate social event (e.g. annual awards, team-building/training weekends, christmas party). It breaks the ice, encouraging people to interact, especially where there are different generations present.
The ‘caller’ who comes with our band chooses dances to suit the ability of the participants, running slowly through each move before calling the dance to music.
The Aortas Ceilidh Band’s standard line-up is flute, guitar, accordion and fiddle - a classic line-up for playing irish ceilidh music, but in practice we can vary line-ups and material to better suit events requiring a more english, scottish or american flavour.
The band can also play ‘session-style’ music, taking a more background role to provide atmosphere, and provide music for wedding ceremonies.
